With over three decades of clinical experience providing mental health care, Dr. Maria T. Slodzinski, serves as the Clinical Director of the Columbia Counseling Center. With a doctoral dissertation that examined acculturation and cross-cross cultural counseling, Dr. Slodzinski actively sought to treat diverse populations: the underprivileged, the disabled, immigrants, university students, faculty, combat veterans and health care professionals. Dr. Slodzinski treated children, adults, families, and couples in a wide variety of settings. In both inpatient and outpatient settings, Dr. Slodzinski provided psychological care: individual therapy, group therapy, couple counseling, family counseling, formal psychological and neuropsychological evaluation, and disability evaluation.
Dr. Slodzinski’s inpatient experiences encompassed medical, rehabilitation, and psychiatric services. Academically, Dr. Slodzinski developed graduate psychology programs that included externships as well as pre-doctoral and postdoctoral programs. Administratively, Dr. Slodzinski developed and supervised multiple mental health providers, managed financial resources, liaised with multiple governmental and private mental health agencies to develop mental health service lines. More recently, Dr. Slodzinski joins the Columbia Counseling Center as a successful private practitioner with extensive work in adolescent, adult, and geriatric populations.
As a national scholar, Dr. Slodzinski earned her Bachelor of Arts in Psychology from the University of the Philippines. In addition to her two master’s degrees, in counseling psychology and clinical psychology, Dr. Slodzinski obtained a Doctorate of Psychology from Indiana University of Pennsylvania. She completed her Pre-Doctoral Internship in Child and Adolescent Psychiatry at the University of Maryland Medical System and a very competitive Post-Doctoral Fellowship in Medical Psychology at the Johns Hopkins University.
Dr. Slodzinski Maria was born and raised in the Philippines. Having been raised and educated in the Philippines, Dr. Slodzinski is one of the few clinical psychologists in the DELMARVA area who can conduct therapy in Tagalog. Along with her professional activities, she loves gardening, listening to music, singing and playing the guitar with friends.
