Dr. Larry Grubb has Board Certifications in Adult Psychiatry and in Child and Adolescent Psychiatry. Dr. Grubb has 35 years of experience treating psychiatric disorders for children, adolescents and adults.
Dr. Grubb received his Medical Degree from the University of Kentucky in 1985. He completed a 4 year Residency in Psychiatry at the Naval Medical Center in California and a 2 year Fellowship in Child and Adolescent Psychiatry at Walter Reed Army Medical Center in DC.
Prior to attending medical school Dr. Grubb was an infantry man in the Army and a Navy Officer on Nuclear Submarines. After graduating from Medical School, Dr. Grubb spent 30 years as a psychiatrist and administrator in the military. During his military career Dr. Grubb provided mental health services to children and adults but also worked at the Pentagon and Headquarters of Navy Medicine and was in charge of accession and disability policies for all the military services.
After retirement from the military Dr. Grubb has been responsible for evaluating and treating military member who have psychiatric disorders, especially those with Posttraumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) and Traumatic Brain Injury (TBI). He served as the Head, Traumatic Stress and Brain Injury Psychological Service at Bethesda Naval Medical Center. He is an expert in the military’s Disability Evaluation System and in addition to his work at Columbia Counseling Center, Dr. Grubb continues to provide services to members of the military who are in the Disability Evaluation Systems (DES) for the Army, Navy and Marine Corps. Dr. Grubb specializes in the medication management of psychiatric disorders and pharmacologic intervention for all forms of mental illness. His broad experiences enables him to work effectively with children, adolescents and adults who suffer from mood disorders such as depression and bipolar disorder, anxiety disorders, attention and impulse-control disorders such as ADHD, and more severe mental disorders.
Dr. Grubb is interested in patients suffering from eating disorders and who seek weight management support and evaluations prior to undergoing bariatric surgery. He is the author of the book “Solving the Weight Loss Puzzle,” and the eBook “Get Your Head Out of the Refrigerator.” His CD “Reaching Your Natural Weight” has received much praise from parents and educators.
